Heavy Duty Truck Alignment in Tampa FL

Solid-axle alignment for F-250/F-350, RAM 2500/3500, and Silverado HD. Tooling and expertise most shops don't have.

A heavy duty truck alignment is not just a bigger version of a regular alignment - it's a different job. A Ford F-250 Super Duty or a Ram 3500 dually weighs between 7,500 and 9,500 pounds empty, and most chain alignment racks in Tampa are rated to 5,000 or 6,000 pounds. The tooling matters too: a solid front axle on a Super Duty or HD Ram has different adjustment points than the independent front suspension on a half-ton, and most quick-lube and tire-chain technicians have never set caster with shims or adjusted a track bar in their career. At LR Wheels N Lifts we've done thousands of HD alignments since 2013 - F-250s, F-350s, Ram 2500s and 3500s, Silverado HD and Sierra HD trucks, dually and single rear wheel. Our alignment rack is rated for one-ton trucks fully loaded, our tech has the experience to know that a 2017+ Super Duty solid axle pulls right under load when the right-side caster drops half a degree, and we carry the shims and tools to fix it. Heavy duty truck alignment at our Tampa shop is $150 to $200 depending on platform and adjustment work needed. That includes a 4-wheel measurement, all caster/camber/toe corrections, a road test under load, and a before-and-after printout you take with you.

Why This Alignment Matters

What you get from a proper alignment at our Tampa shop.

Solid-Axle Tooling and Expertise

Super Duty and Ram HD trucks use a solid front axle - caster is set with shims between the axle and the radius arm, camber is fixed by ball joint cam, and the track bar centers the axle laterally. Most chain shops only know IFS adjustment. We carry the full range of shim sizes, adjustable track bars, and the experience to know what each platform needs without guessing.

Tire Wear Protection on Expensive HD Tires

LT-rated 10-ply tires on a Super Duty or HD Ram run $400 to $600 each - a $2,000 set of fronts. Bad alignment on a heavy truck eats those tires twice as fast as a half-ton because of the front-end weight pressing the bad angle into the contact patch. A $150 alignment that protects $2,000 of rubber over 30,000 miles is the most obvious return on a service we sell.

Built for Loaded and Towing Conditions

Heavy duty trucks ride very differently empty versus loaded with a 14,000-pound fifth-wheel or a snow plow on the front. We set alignment angles that work in both states - slightly more positive caster for highway stability when towing, toe set for even tire wear under the loaded ride height. We ask how you use the truck and adjust accordingly.

Before-and-After Documentation

Every HD alignment leaves with a printed report showing initial measurements, factory spec range, final settings, and the change for each wheel. If you're a fleet manager, a contractor with multiple trucks, or selling the truck in two years, that documentation is proof the truck was maintained. We've been doing this long enough to know the paper trail matters as much as the work.

Trucks & Vehicles We Align

Heavy Duty Truck Alignment platforms we work on every day.

Ford F-250 Super Duty (2017+ platform)

The post-2017 Super Duty solid front axle is the most common HD alignment we do - Tremor, Lariat, Platinum, Limited trims. The 2017 refresh kept the solid axle but changed the radius arm geometry; caster adjustment shims must match the new bracket spec. Common pull-right complaint is a worn track bar bushing dropping caster on the passenger side.

Ford F-350 Super Duty (SRW and Dually)

Single rear wheel and dual rear wheel F-350s both run the same Dana 60 front axle, but dually trucks see more weight transfer when towing a fifth-wheel. We set slightly higher positive caster on dually trucks for highway stability, and verify rear toe-in is symmetrical on the rear dual axle for even inner-tire wear.

Ram 2500 with 6.7L Cummins

Ram HD solid front axle with the Cummins diesel is the heaviest single-axle front end on the road - north of 4,800 pounds on the front wheels. The factory track bar wears out at 60,000-80,000 miles and lets the axle drift; symptoms feel like alignment but are actually a worn track bar. We check the track bar and tie rod ends first, then align.

Ram 3500 (work truck and dually)

Ram 3500 dually with the Cummins is a common landscaping, hot shot, and gooseneck-towing platform around Tampa. We align dually 3500s under their typical load condition when possible - empty alignment specs cause inner-tire wear once the truck is loaded with a 14,000-pound trailer. Same Dana 60-derived front as the 2500 with reinforced tie rods.

Chevy Silverado 2500HD and GMC Sierra HD (L5P Duramax)

Unlike Ram and Ford HD, the GM HD platform runs an independent front suspension (IFS), not a solid axle. Caster and camber adjust with cam bolts on the upper and lower control arms - more adjustment range than a solid axle, but the IFS components wear faster under the L5P Duramax front-end weight. Common alignment-time finding: worn lower control arm bushings.

What to Expect

Our alignment process from start to finish.

1

Initial Inspection & Measurement

We put your truck on the alignment rack and take precise measurements of the current caster, camber, and toe angles on all wheels. This baseline tells us exactly what needs adjustment.

2

Caster, Camber & Toe Adjustment

Our technicians adjust each angle to manufacturer specifications or custom settings for your build. On solid axle trucks, this involves adjusting the axle housing, track bar, and tie rod ends.

3

Before & After Printout

You receive a printed report showing the exact measurements before and after the alignment, so you can see the corrections made and keep the data for your records.

4

Road Test

We take the truck for a test drive to verify straight tracking, no steering pull, and proper steering wheel centering. If anything is off, we go back to the rack and fine-tune.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about this alignment service.

How much does a heavy duty truck alignment cost in Tampa?

Heavy duty truck alignment at our Tampa shop runs $150 to $200 depending on platform. A Silverado 2500HD or Sierra HD on the IFS platform is closer to $150 because the cam bolt adjustment is straightforward. A Super Duty or Ram HD with the solid front axle is $175 to $200 because setting caster with shims, adjusting the track bar, and correcting tie rod length takes more rack time. The price includes a 4-wheel alignment, all measurements, and a before-and-after printout. Custom specs on built or heavily modified HD trucks run $200 to $250.

How is a heavy duty alignment different from a regular alignment?

Three differences. First, weight - HD trucks are 7,500 to 9,500 pounds empty, and a lot of chain alignment racks aren't rated for that. Second, tooling - solid front axle trucks (Super Duty, Ram HD) require caster shims and track bar adjustments, not the cam bolts a quick-lube tech is used to. Third, technician experience - setting alignment on a one-ton diesel that pulls a 14,000-pound trailer takes someone who understands what changes between empty and loaded ride height. We've specialized in this since 2013.

Do you have a rack that handles a fully loaded F-350?

Yes. Our alignment rack is rated for one-ton trucks at full GVWR - a dually F-350 weighs 8,500 pounds empty and our equipment handles that without flex that would throw off the measurements. Most chain alignment racks are rated to 5,000 or 6,000 pounds, which is fine for a half-ton but not for an HD diesel or a dually. If you've been turned away from another shop because of weight, bring it here. We do this every day.

Can you align a truck with a snow plow, work body, or aftermarket bumper?

Yes, and these are some of the most important alignments we do. A 600-pound snow plow on the front bumper or a 200-pound aftermarket steel bumper shifts the front-end weight forward, compresses the front suspension, and changes the caster and camber under that load. We can align the truck with the added weight installed, which is the right approach - set the angles where they live, not at the factory empty ride height. Bring the truck the way you use it.

How often should I align my heavy duty truck?

More often than a half-ton. A daily-driver Super Duty or Ram HD should be aligned every 15,000 miles or every 12 months - whichever comes first. If you tow weekly or run a snow plow or a heavy work body, drop that interval to 10,000-12,000 miles because the loaded suspension cycles wear adjustment points faster. Any pull, any uneven tire wear, or any steering wheel that doesn't sit straight is a sign to come in before the interval. HD trucks earn back the cost of frequent alignments in tire savings alone.

What about Super Duty or one-ton trucks with lift kits?

A lifted Super Duty or Ram HD needs everything in this article plus the lift-specific adjustments - track bar drop bracket, adjustable radius arms, caster correction shims sized for the lift height. We handle these every week. Pricing on a lifted HD alignment runs $175 to $225 depending on the lift height and how many adjustment points the build has. If you have a lifted HD truck, our dedicated lifted truck alignment page covers the lift-specific details - both pages apply to your build.

Heavy duty truck alignment in Tampa Bay has its own local realities. Florida pavement heat softens tire compounds and exposes bad alignment faster than cooler climates - a worn-in toe error eats an HD tire in 8,000 miles down here, not 20,000. I-4 and I-75 truck traffic puts HD trucks through constant lane-change steering, which reveals every caster imbalance. And the brackish humidity across Hillsborough, Polk, and Manatee counties rusts solid-axle adjustment points - track bar bolts, shim packs, tie rod ends - faster than dry-climate trucks. We see these issues every week on working trucks from Plant City to Bradenton.
