The 6.7L Power Stroke is one of the heaviest production engines in a half-ton or HD platform. The added weight settles the radius arm bushings over time and drops front caster, which produces a unique inner-edge wear pattern on the front tires - straight, sharp, and isolated to the inside two ribs. Caster shims correct it; a generic alignment to gas-spec will not.

Ram 2500 / 3500 with 6.7L Cummins

The Cummins solid front axle is the heaviest single-axle front end on the road, north of 4,800 pounds on the wheels. Track bar wears at 60,000-80,000 miles and lets the axle drift laterally - symptoms feel like alignment but are a worn track bar. Tie rod ends are a known wear item by 80,000 miles. We check both before setting the angles. Mid-2007 was the .5 changeover from the 5.9L to the 6.7L Cummins - same alignment approach applies.

Chevy Silverado 2500HD / 3500HD Duramax L5P

Unlike Ford and Ram HD, GM HD diesels run an independent front suspension, not a solid axle. The IFS is easier to align - cam bolts on the upper and lower control arms give wide adjustment range - but lower control arm bushings wear faster under L5P front-end weight than under the gas L8T. How often should I align my diesel truck?

If you tow weekly with a fifth-wheel or gooseneck, drop that interval to 10,000 miles because loaded suspension cycles wear adjustment points faster on a diesel than a gas truck. What is death wobble and is alignment the cause?

Death wobble is a violent, self-sustaining steering oscillation that hits a lifted solid-axle truck (Power Stroke Super Duty, Cummins Ram HD, Jeep Wrangler) usually between 45 and 65 mph after a bump or seam in the road. The fix is almost always a combination of alignment correction and replacing one or two worn front-end parts - typically track bar, tie rod ends, or ball joints. Pure alignment will not fix death wobble if a component is worn out, but pure parts replacement will not fix it either if the angles are wrong. Start with a real diesel-trained alignment shop that knows to measure first, then replace.

Why do diesel trucks wear tires faster?

Front-end weight. A 6.7L Cummins or 6.7L Power Stroke puts 800 to 1,200 pounds more on the front wheels than the gas version of the same truck. That weight presses any alignment error - even a small one - into the contact patch with more force, so a tire that would last 50,000 miles on a gas F-150 with marginal toe wears out in 25,000 miles on a Power Stroke F-250 with the same toe error. The fix is diesel-specific alignment targets and more frequent re-alignments. A well-aligned diesel can get full life out of its LT tires; a misaligned diesel will eat them at twice the gas-truck rate.

Can deletes or tunes affect alignment?

No - deletes and tunes are engine and emissions modifications and do not change the suspension geometry. They cannot move caster, camber, or toe. If your aligned diesel is wearing tires unevenly after a tune, the cause is either a separate alignment problem, a worn suspension part, or driving habit (towing pattern).
