Post-Lift Truck Alignment in Tampa FL
Just installed a lift kit or leveling kit? Get your truck aligned before tire wear and steering pull start costing you money.
You just installed a lift. Here is what happens in the next 1,000 miles if you do not get aligned. Within the first 100 miles you will notice the steering wheel sits crooked when the truck is tracking straight - the toe is out of spec the moment the lift goes in. Within 500 miles the truck starts wandering on the highway, drifting between the lane lines and requiring small constant steering corrections. Within 1,500 miles the inside edges of both front tires begin to cup and feather where the camber and caster have shifted out of factory range. By 5,000 miles that wear pattern is irreparable - no alignment can save those tires once the rubber is gone. Every major aftermarket brand changes geometry enough that the original specs are wrong: Rough Country, BDS, ReadyLIFT, ICON, Fox, Cognito, Carli, AEV, BD Diesel. A 2-inch leveling kit drops caster by roughly 1.5 degrees on most half-tons. A 6-inch suspension lift can swing camber a full 2 degrees positive. Drive 5,000 miles on either without alignment and you have chewed $400-$800 off the life of a tire set and started cycling ball joints in ways they were not engineered for. At LR Wheels N Lifts we do same-week post-lift alignments - often same-day if you call by mid-morning. Half-ton post-lift alignment is $120, heavy duty $150 to $200. If we installed your lift, alignment is free.
Why This Alignment Matters
What you get from a proper alignment at our Tampa shop.
Same-Week Post-Lift Appointments
Call us the day after your install and we will get you in this week - often the same day if you call by 10am. We hold rack time specifically for post-lift alignments because we know the math: every mile you drive on bad geometry is tire life and ball joint life you do not get back. Walk-ins are welcome but a 30-second phone call gets you a confirmed slot.
We Know Every Major Lift Brand
Rough Country, BDS, ReadyLIFT, ICON, Fox, Cognito, Carli, AEV - we know each brand's geometry change at each height. A 6-inch BDS on a Ram HD needs different caster shims than a 6-inch Rough Country on the same truck. A 2.5-inch ICON coilover on a Tacoma drops caster differently than a 2.5-inch ReadyLIFT. We do not look these up. We have done them.
The Cost of Skipping, in Real Dollars
A $1,500 to $2,500 set of 35-inch tires chewed in 8,000 to 15,000 miles. $400 to $800 in premature ball joint replacement - parts plus 4 to 6 hours of shop labor. Voided lift kit warranties (most brands require alignment within 500 miles, in writing). A $120 to $200 alignment now stops every one of those bills. The math is not close.
Free Alignment When We Install the Lift
Lift kit installation at our Tampa shop always includes alignment - full 4-wheel, caster shims if your kit needs them, before-and-after printout. Not a discount, not a coupon, it is built into the install price. If you are still shopping installers, that is a $120 to $200 value you do not pay twice for, plus the assurance the truck leaves with geometry set right.
What to Expect
Our alignment process from start to finish.
Initial Inspection & Measurement
We put your truck on the alignment rack and take precise measurements of the current caster, camber, and toe angles on all wheels. This baseline tells us exactly what needs adjustment.
Caster, Camber & Toe Adjustment
Our technicians adjust each angle to manufacturer specifications or custom settings for your build. On solid axle trucks, this involves adjusting the axle housing, track bar, and tie rod ends.
Before & After Printout
You receive a printed report showing the exact measurements before and after the alignment, so you can see the corrections made and keep the data for your records.
Road Test
We take the truck for a test drive to verify straight tracking, no steering pull, and proper steering wheel centering. If anything is off, we go back to the rack and fine-tune.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about this alignment service.
Should I drive home from the install before getting aligned?
If the drive home is under 30 miles and the steering tracks reasonably straight, yes - drive home and book alignment for this week. If the truck pulls hard, the steering wheel is significantly off-center, or the toe looks visibly wrong (front tires pointing toward or away from each other), do not drive it on the highway. Severe toe-out can shred a brand new tire in under 200 miles. Call us first, we can usually get you in within 24-48 hours and tell you over the phone whether the truck is safe to drive in.
How soon after lift install do I need an alignment?
Within 100 miles is the right answer. Within 500 miles is the latest you should push it before tire damage becomes measurable. By 1,500 miles you will see cupping start on the inside edges of the front tires. By 5,000 miles those tires are done - no alignment afterward will undo that wear pattern. Most lift kit manufacturers (Rough Country, BDS, ReadyLIFT) actually require alignment within 500 miles to keep the warranty valid. Book it the same day or the day after install.
Can I drive a few hundred miles like this?
Technically yes, the truck will still drive. But every mile is measurable tire wear and accelerated ball joint cycling. If your front toe is off by even half a degree after a lift install - which is normal until aligned - you are scrubbing the front tires sideways every mile you drive. Florida heat amplifies this; the tire compound softens and the bad angle digs into the contact patch faster than in cooler climates. Two hundred miles on a leveled half-ton is probably fine. Two hundred miles on a 6-inch lifted HD with 37s is a $500 wear pattern in the making.
What if the shop that installed my lift didn't include alignment?
Common scenario, and we see it every week. Plenty of shops install lift kits without bundling alignment - sometimes because they do not have an alignment rack, sometimes because it is priced separately to keep the install quote lower. Bring the truck to us. We do not need you to have bought the lift from us, we do not charge extra for trucks installed elsewhere, and we will not lecture you. We will measure where it sits now, set every angle to spec for your lift height, and send you out with a before-and-after printout. $120 half-ton, $150 to $200 HD.
Do leveling kits need alignment too?
Yes - every time. A 2-inch front leveling kit is one of the most common alignment causes we see. Leveling kits raise only the front, which means they change front caster and camber while leaving the rear untouched. Caster typically drops 1 to 1.5 degrees on a 2-inch level, which produces wandering steering and a steering wheel that does not return to center. Toe shifts as well because the tie rods are now operating at a different angle. A leveling kit alignment is the same $120 as any half-ton alignment and is the single highest-return $120 you will spend on the truck.
How is a post-lift alignment different from a normal alignment?
Two real differences. First, the starting point is much further out of spec - we are often correcting 2 to 4 degrees of caster swing and 1 to 2 degrees of camber, where a normal maintenance alignment might be correcting half a degree. Second, the toolbox matters more - many lifts need caster shims, adjustable track bars, or aftermarket upper control arms to bring the angles back into range, and a shop without those parts on the shelf cannot finish the job. We stock the shims and track bars for every common lift on Ford, Ram, GM, Toyota, and Jeep. We finish the job that day.
Tampa is a DIY lift town. The weather is warm year-round, garages stay workable in January, and a huge number of lifts on the road here were installed at home over a weekend rather than at a shop. The common pattern: someone buys a Rough Country leveling kit at Discount Tire or orders a BDS lift online, installs it themselves in Brandon or Riverview or Wesley Chapel, then realizes within the first highway drive that something is off. We get those phone calls every week. Same-week appointment, you drive in, we set it right. No judgment about who installed it - we just fix the geometry.
